Research Abstract |
Matrix metalloprotease (MMP)-9 transgenic (Tg) rabbits were analyzed to clarify the effects of MMP-9 on atherosclerosis. With high cholesterol diet loading, the arteriosclerotic lesion in MMP-9 Tg rabbit was larger than in control rabbit. Subsequently, MMP-9 Tg rabbit was mated with MMP-12 (known to accelerate the initiation of atherosclerosis) Tg rabbit and MMP-9/12 Tg rabbit was established as a candidate for a novel model for acute coronary syndromes.
