Research Abstract |
Whatever the mechanisms are, elevations of fetuin-A were associated with metabolic syndrome and hypercholesterolemia, which are strong risk factors for cerebro-cardiovascular diseases. In fact, many clinical studies reported a high incidence of cerebro-cardiovascular diseases in subjects with high fetuin-A levels. We prospectively investigated that higher fetuin-A levels are related to incident ischemic stroke in our cohort, and we also elucidated the significance of plasma fetuin-A as a risk factor of the stroke in a general Japanese cohort.
