Research Abstract

An appropriate antibiotic plays a crucial role in treatment of infectious diseases caused by pathogenic microorganisms. At present, antibiotics still work well for most patients. But, for some patients, their diseases have become difficult to treat because of antibiotic resistance, and they urgently need new antibiotic treatment options. In the present research, using a screening system that specifically target a defence mechanism whereby bacterial cells escape from lethal damage caused by reactive oxygene species, some iron chelators were found to be lead compounds as a potential drug target for treatment against multi-drug resistant bacteria.
