Research Abstract |
We evaluated the clinical results of stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) for patients with lung cancer aged 80 and over. Sixty-five patientswere evaluated. Overall survival (OS) was 47.4 % at 5 year. A patient with interstitial pneumonitis experienced Grade 3 radiation pneumonitis following lethal aspiration pneumonia. We also evaluated the efficacy of 3-dimensional conformal fractionated radiotherapy for spinal schwannoma. One patient experienced transient expansion by 8 mm in diameter at 12 months after the completion of radiotherapy (35 mm to 43 mm), and then tumor size remained unchanged for 7 years. No severe late toxicity equal to or above Grade 3 was observed. SBRT seems to be effective treatment for elderly patients, however, more research is needed to establish its indication.
