| Research Abstract |
We performed two randomized controlled trials to investigate the effects of immunonutrition on postoperative complications after severely stressful surgery.
As the results, preoperative immunonutrition for patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy and major hepatectomy could reduce infectious complication rates. It was suggested that immunonutrition modulated prostaglandin E2 production and T cell differentiation and resolvin E1 might play a key role in the resolution of acute inflammation when immunonutrition was supplemented with eicosapentaenoic acid.
