Research Abstract

The present study demonstrates that point-proton radii of unstable nuclei can be determined from the charge-changing cross sections at intermediate energies. With the phenomenologically modified Glauber model analysis, systematic measurements of the charge-changing cross sections for stable and unstable nuclei, whose proton radii are already known, show a simple scaling law over a wide range of proton-neutron ratios. An application to neutron-rich carbon isotopes indicates a systematic evolution of proton radii and discovered a thick neutron skin. The present method was applied to medium mass nuclei such as Fe and Ni isotopes, and shows a clear correlation between the charge-changing cross sections and proton radii.
