Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Radiation enteritis is caused by radiation therapy to cancer patients, or by an accident in nuclear power plants. The aim of the study was to explore the new strategy to treat radiation enteritis, and I investigated the effect of fetal membrane-derived mesenchymal stem cells in vivo and in vitro. Treatment with human amnion-derived mesenchymal stem cells in rats with radiation enteritis ameliorated histological observations and the expression of proinflammatory cytokines. In vitro experiments demonstrated that radiation-induced cell injury was suppressed by human amnion-derived mesenchymal stem cells. Taken together, amnion-derived mesenchymal cells could be considered as a new treatment for radiation enteritis.
