Research Abstract |
The accuracy of a depicting visceral adipose tissue (VAT) accumulation is of importance for future obesity related diseases. In this thesis, we aimed to clarify the influence of single-slice image measurement sites on VAT volume and changes in VAT volume and to determine whether the measurement site affects the relationship between the single-slice image of the VAT area and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors. The results suggest that using a single-slice image at 5-6 cm above L4-L5 has a much greater detecting power for estimating VAT volume and changes than a single-slice image at L4-L5. These results suggest that future studies should consider choosing a single-slice image located 5-6 cm above L4-L5 instead of (or in addition to) the L4-L5 image to examine the association with CVD risk factors.
