高圧中性子トモグラフィー法の開発：マントル中におけるフルイドの三次元分布の解明

Research Abstract

本研究では小型プレスを用いた高温・高圧下における中性子トモグラフィー測定の開発を目的とし、装置の開発・測定を行ってきた。昨年度に製作・導入した並進ステージ系や回転動作に対応した加熱・水冷機構を用いて、今年度は中性子線を用いたイメージング測定を行い、中性子イメージング測定の最適化を行った。具体的な内容については下記の通りである。
・回転加熱機構を用いた温度校正実験：昨年度に導入した回転動作に対応した加熱ユニットを用いて、実際に使用する試料セルを用いて加熱を行い、電力と温度の関係を調べた。
・中性子イメージングに向けた光学系の最適化：中性子ビームラインに設置してある３つの中性子ミラー（スリット）は回折実験用に設計されているため、愛媛大学の井上徹教授と協力して、３つのスリットサイズの組み合わせを変えて、中性子サイズ、空間分解能（ぼけ）、ビーム分布を変化させ、シャープネスやノイズを評価し、中性子イメージングの最適化を行った。
・組成・サイズを変えた中性子イメージング条件の最適化：複数種類の含水鉱物と無水鉱物を、実際の高圧セルに入れ、イメージコントラストのチェックを行った。また試料径を5～2mmに変化させて、コントラストの変化を確認した。試料サイズが2mm径の中性子実験としては比較的小さなサイズにおいてもMg(OH)2とMgOは、はっきりコントラストがついて区別できることが確認できた。さらに試料からカメラ距離を変化させた際の像の変化についても調べた。
・中性子トモグラフィー測定：以上の中性子イメージ最適化条件のもと、水平方向に開口角の大きなパリ・エジンバラプレス装置を回転ステージ上に設置し、複数種の含水・無水鉱物を高圧セルに封入して、トモグラフィー測定を行った。測定は、5°刻みで0～180°の範囲で撮像した。以上より中性子プローブを用いたイメージング・トモグラフィー測定が可能となった。
