Research Abstract |
Inhibition of prolyl hydorxlyase (PHD), an oxygen sensor, suppressed anigotensin II receptor expression in vascular smooth muscle cells and angiotensin II-induced cardiac fibrosis. Mice with targeted deletion of PHD isoform 2 in adipocytes were resistant to high-fat diet-induced obesity and glucose intolerance. PHD inhibition may be a novel strategy for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases and metabolic syndrome.
