Research Abstract |
Ultra fine microfluidic reactor with 15 micrometer mixing channels was developed for fine synthesis of binary nanocluster catalysts with well-controlled size and chemical composition. In contrast to a wide variety of size of AuPd nanoclusters prepared by batch reactions, highly monodisperse, ultra-small (1.2 nm) AuPd nanoclusters were synthesized by the microfluidic reactor regardless of their compositions. These nanoclusters show catalytic activity for aerobic oxidation of alcohols under ambient conditions. The nanoclusters show maximum activity at Pd composition of 20 - 40%, which originates from high electron density on active Au site through electron donation from Pd based on electronic spectroscopy.
