Research Abstract |
The effect of soil salinity on the oxygen and carbon isotope compositions in leaf organic matter and the oxygen isotope composition in stem water were examined for some halophytes in the Central Asian desert and on the Red Sea coast. The results indicate that the water-use strategy of desert plants in high-salinity environments can be assessed based on their carbon and oxygen isotope ratios.
