Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Following characteristics of nursing research were found: major types of research are observational with questionnaires; the frequency of conducting qualitative and quantitative studies is equivalent; the frequency of conducting studies involving biomaterials or physical harms is low; and the majority of subjects are competent patients or medical professionals or students. A theoretical analysis didn’t support a claim that ethical principles for nursing research should differ from those for medical research. Reviewing the historical process of how the ethics framework of nursing research in the US had been developed has demonstrated that it is structured on the basis of the common framework shared in medical research; while the framework in Japan has evolved in its own unique way by merging the ethical principles for medical research and nursing practice. Consequently, the Japanese ethics framework of nursing research was found to end up with difficult ethical problems in justice.
