Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In 2023, a survey was conducted on the Willingness to Communicate (WTC) and International Posture (IP) at three universities: Two national universities and one private university. The objective was to identify "ascenders," who are students expressing satisfaction with their English classes, and "descenders," who are students expressing dissatisfaction with their English classes. The upcoming step involves interviewing these identified students during the spring semester of the academic year 2024, as part of the ongoing recruitment process. Additionally, in the spring semester of 2024, the same survey will be repeated, incorporating additional inquiries regarding students' levels of shyness in the English classroom.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Our research progress has proceeded without any significant impediments. We have diligently adhered to the schedule delineated in our research proposal, thereby ensuring systematic and efficient advancement in our study.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
For the surveys, we will present our findings at the AILA World Congress in Malaysia, and JALT Conference in Shizuoka, Japan.
We are on Phase 2 in our study where we will interview the students who are the asenders and desenders. The questions are based on Piggin's (2010) study. We will focus on students' responses to the Willingness to Communicate and International Posture survey, students' past experiences with English education, and their expectations, motivations, and goals. The interviews will either be on ZOOM or face-to-face.

Causes of Carryover |
My research partners and I will attend two conferences during this fiscal year: AILA 60th Anniversary World Congress Kuala Lumpur 2024, and the9th Annual International Conference on Language Teaching and Learning & Educational Materials Exhibition on November 24 - 27. We will also interview our participants and give honorarium to them.
