Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
I gathered secondary and primary source material. In addition, I had assistance in gathering French and Chinese language sources from two research assistants. I organized a project workshop at Kyoto University in Oct 2023 on the theme of Kinship and conflict. With regard publication, I completed two articles now under review at the journal Immigrants and Minorities.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Progress is going well, although my son was born in June last year which prevented me travelling abroad. Luckily, I was able to gather a lot of primary material from digital sources and could engage with the secondary material needed to create the intellectual framework of the project.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
This year’s research will continue as per the original plan, and hope to access some archives in Europe during the course of this year. I have been invited to contribute to a variety of conferences which will help to further solidify the intellectual framework of this project. I redesigned my undergraduate history course to focus on Empire and the First World War.
|
Causes of Carryover |
As my son was born in June, I could not use my travel budget, but I plan to use it this year for two trips to Europe in June and March.
