| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The period from April 2023 - March 2024 was spent on the collection of the data that will form the basis for the development of an intercultural communication support mechanism that connects university students with local communities requiring support.
1. April - June 2023: visits to an international association and NPO in Nishinomiya City, Hyogo Prefecture. Interviews with director and employees.
2. July 2023: visits to 4 companies employing foreign workers in Miyagi Prefecture. Interviews with Japanese employees, company presidents, and technical intern trainees.
3. June - September 2023: visits to 9 companies employing foreign workers in Osaka and Hyogo Prefectures. Interviews with company presidents, Japanese employees, and foreign workers.
4. June 2023 - March 2024: participation as volunteer in a community activity supporting foreign residents in Nishinomiya City.

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
I have kept to the original plan of data collection for this period. I am satisfied with the amount and quality of data I have been able to collect so far.
As I have changed jobs from April and moved to a university in Tokyo, I will need to explore new data sources in the Kanto region this year. This was unexpected and although I am on schedule now, there may be delays in progress this year for this reason.
Unfortunately I was unable to publish any findings last year but have plans to present and publish my findings to date in various publications and forums over the next year.

| Strategy for Future Research Activity |
This year I am planning to implement the following three activities:
1. I will explore new data sources in the Kanto region, including international associations, non-profit organizations providing support to foreign residents, and companies employing foreign workers. Data collection is expected to take place in the latter half of this year.
2. I will analyze my data to begin planning the structure and mechanism for the intercultural communication support program that is the ultimate objective of this project.
3. I will discuss with the relevant organizations at my university, including the international center and educational affairs department, on feasible mechanisms for delivery of my program to university students.

| Causes of Carryover |
I had planned to visit some more companies over the period, which would have required travel expenses. However it was not possible to coordinate schedules with the companies during the period, so the trips were not conducted.
