Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The research strives to create a data-oriented public transport fare equity considering spatial characteristics that can ensure equity among the service population while also generating sufficient revenue for the operators. In the first year of research, we have setup an integrated database of daily trips. The public transport usage was analyzed by sub-population groups (i.e., gender and income) and spatial characteristics. Within this classification, mobility variability in terms of individual mobility patterns, aggregated mobility patterns by zone, and variability of the spatial network were capture. A part of results of the research conducted in the first year have been submitted to the Transport Policy journal and are currently under consideration for 2nd round of review.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Our results have been published or under consideration for several journals like Public Transport Journal (Q2) and Transport Policy journal (Q1).
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In the next period, we will start computing the realized travel costs under the present fare policy and the travel frequency by zones passengers traveled, which will serve as the baseline for an equity comparison. We will then evaluate the spatial and social equities using Lorenz Curves, Theil indexes, and Gini indexes for all passengers across different types of users over a ten years. In order to compare the variations of public transport equity based on a consistent spatial unit, we will generate fishnet grids in QGIS for the entire study and count the number of passengers by the home locations within each grid each year. Part of results will be submitted to conferences or journals.
