Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Preliminary preparation for animal studies was meticulosly conducted. This involved testing of intraperitoneal injection of cancer cells, diligent of mice, careful design of in-vivo setup for ultrasound exposure, and preparing for the monitoring mechanisms. The safety of low-frequency ultrasound for drug delivery was evaluated in vivo. Specifically, pig skin tissue was irradiated with ultrasonic waves (frequency 47 kHz, sound intensity 1.29 W/cm2, diameter 8 mm, for 10 seconds). No apparent tissue damage occurred in the skin tissue under either continuous ultrasound irradiation for 10 seconds or 10 irradiations of 1 second each. This experiment suggests that low-frequency ultrasound is safe for living organisms.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
A prototype of the device planned for the first year was created. The safety of low-frequency ultrasound on animal skin was also confirmed. Although actual treatment experiments using tumor models could not be conducted, preparations were made for such experiments. Thus, the research is progressing relatively smoothly.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
The prototype created this year will be further improved and used for therapeutic experiments on tumor model animals. Furthermore, we will evaluate the improvement of the anti-tumor effect by combining it with antibody drugs.
|
Causes of Carryover |
Since no therapeutic experiments with antibody drugs were conducted, the budget was not used to purchase those reagents and animals. These budgets are used to purchase reagents and animals in the following year.
