Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
We developed several behavioral methods to measure indices of higher cognitive functions related to the integration of visual information and movement in humans. One such method involves measuring responses to visual verbal cues, which help prepare appropriate movements within a short timeframe. We identified effective verbal cues that complement cognitive factors in fall prevention and evaluated their use in mixed reality technology. Additionally, we measured multiple priming effects and assessed their impact on the visuomotor coupling. The evaluation results revealed the importance of both explicit object shape judgments and non-explicit recognition of object orientations during visually cued movements. Furthermore, it was suggested that the higher cognitive functions play a crucial role in cognitive control during instantaneous body movements.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
We will increase the number of participants to enhance the study's accuracy. Additionally, we intend to investigate how higher cognitive functions related to the integration of visual information and movement evolve and decline across different life stages.

Causes of Carryover |
Due to the ongoing preventive measures for respiratory infections, planning and conducting physiological experiments with large-scale and/or elderly subjects posed challenges. Consequently, only behavioral experiments were conducted with small-scale young adult participants.
