Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
This research aims to cultivate nursing students, preparing them to confidently use English in their future roles as nurses, particularly in emergency medicine and internal medicine settings. The proposed activities for Year 1, 2023, included: 1. Visiting collaborative universities; 2. Data collection; 3. Attending conferences/seminars; and 4. Conducting a needs analysis through a questionnaire. The following activities were undertaken: The applicant visited Dr. Lu, Professor of Kaohsiung Medical University, and Dr. Lin, Professor of National Cheng Kung University, to discuss collaborative relationships regarding nursing English. Additionally, according to the Japan National Tourism Organization, the number of foreign visitors to Japan in Feb. 2024 exceeded pre-COVID-19 levels. Consequently, the plan to conduct a needs analysis questionnaire was replaced by focusing on first-aid English for sports nurses in the sports field. Japan hosts various sports events, and emergency medicine in the sports field is in extremely high demand. The applicant attended a seminar in March on first aid procedures for sports injuries, aiming to collect relevant data. Speech data collected will be converted to text and then translated into English for teaching materials. Moreover, the applicant participated in conferences such as The Japan Association for Nursing English Teaching and The Japan Society for Medical English Education to gain insights into the current state of English teaching in Japan.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
As proposed in the application, Year 1, 2023, the following plans were to carry out accordingly: 1. Visit collaborative universities; 2. Data collection; 3. Attend conferences/seminars; and 4. Needs Analysis in the form of a questionnaire. Except for #4, the plan to conduct a needs analysis questionnaire has been changed. Japan is hosting many sports competitions, and many athletes will be coming to Japan. The emergency medicine in the sports field is extremely important. The applicant attended a seminar on First aid procedures for sports nurses to collect data during sports injuries. The data will be translated into English for teaching material.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In 2024, the applicant will seek collaboration from oversea universityies asking their students to act as mock patients. More data will be collected on first aid procedures for sports nurses.
|
Causes of Carryover |
The incurred amount will be used in the next fiscal year due to the travel being combined with other activities, resulting in no additional expenses being accrued. The applicant plans to carry out the proposed research schedule as planned using the amount incurred together with the grant for the following year, such as attending conferences and seminars both domestically and overseas.
