Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
This study has been carried out for four months. In these four months, suitable yarns that could be used for both surface and connective layers of the 3D weft-knitted spacer fabrics were searched and selected. Several fabric samples with the arrangement of two types of monofilament yarns were produced. An objective evaluation of the samples on the compression properties was conducted. The results showed that incorporating two monofilaments with different thicknesses not only affects the surface roughness and unevenness but also brings an impact on the compression properties. Within the fabric structure, the thicker monofilament can give reinforcement to the spacer fabric structure while the thin monofilament can help to give some softness to the fabric. By arranging the proportion of the thin and thick monofilament, the compression properties of the spacer fabrics can be adjusted.
Samples with surface layer modification were also produced so as to improve the breathability and heat and moisture transfer ability of the fabric. However, the evaluation of these samples was not finished. When the study continues, it would be interesting to know the impact of the surface modification on the heat and moisture transfer properties and the compression and cushioning behaviours.
