Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
As outlined in the Purpose of the Research, the objective is to study the realization of spin qubits based on 3D SML QDs. Towards this goal, there are several targets. The first target that was set is to the measure the optically spin dynamics in an ensemble of 3D SML QDs. This has been successfully achieved. An optical setup that can perform this measurement was developed by August 2023. The second target that was set is to optimize the optical setup to minimize the spot size to be able to measure few or single 3D SML QDs. This has partially been achieved. The spot size of the optical setup was reduced from 1000 micron to around 25 micron, which would allow for finer measurements of few 3D SML QDs. The third target is to optimize the samples. This is presently being carried out.

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Presently, the about half of the targets have already been achieved. The rest of targets are expected to be completed by the end of the project. The optical setup proposed for project has already been developed. Further optimization may still be needed in the future, but the setup is already operational. The bulk of the work ahead would be the preparation and optimization of the samples. In order to achieved the final target, samples with low density of 3D SML QDs need to be prepared. This will take several optimization cycles and may take several months more to complete.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
For the future work, the main focus would be preparation and optimization of the 3D SML QD samples. This may take several months to finish. So far no change in the proposed research plans is expected.

Causes of Carryover |
As part of the optimization of the proposed optical setup, we will need additional optical components next year. Furthermore, material for the preparation of the 3D SML QD samples are also needed.
