Outline of Annual Research Achievements

1. Conducted literature review.
2. Conducted preliminary data collection through interviews with DMOs and focus groups with tourists.
4. Participated in workshops and conferences related to Muslim tourism and tourism management.
5. Invited guest speaker for a Malaysia-Japan inter governmental level roundtable session.

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

The first year was aimed to understand the current situation of Muslim friendly destinations from the literature. The researcher has done so.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

In the second year, the researcher will continue to engage with literature and collect additional data. A site visit to Okayama prefecture will also be conducted, as planned.

Causes of Carryover

This will be the second year of the research project. The researcher will continue to do data collection and draft a paper for publication.
