Outline of Annual Research Achievements

I visited several research teams in China. I had a fruitful talk with Yuning Gao's team on the construction of the ongoing new input-output table, which might be used in the GVC analysis in the JSPS project. Also, I exchanged the ideas with the experts from the development research center (DRC) of the state council of China, and to see if we can have some collaborations on the international competitiveness research next time. We got the positive response from the DRC experts.
I have completed several datasets, most of which are collected from micro-level data. In addition, I have published some working papers as well as journal articles.

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.

Reason

I have completed three datasets, including a dataset with information on output, value added, labour inputs of industrial firms, aggregated by firm ownership, sector, firm size and province; A dataset with information on firm location, export, sector, ownership of Chinese customs data from 2000-2015; A dataset with information on firm location, patent applicants, citations, etc., of Chinese patent data from 1995-2018.
I have completed several academic papers related to this project, including six working papers and three journal articles.
These achievements are far beyond my expectations when I started the projet.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

I plan to collect more data on firms, customs, patents, and policy-related documemts in order to complete the tasks in this project.
I will further complete some academic papers based on this project.

Causes of Carryover

I have to continue outsourcing the data works to PhD students, because the tasks in the project requires various datasets, including firm data, Chinese customs data, patent data and input-output data, among others.
I will purchase some items needed for the project research, such as ipad, books, etc.
