Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
本研究の主軸であるジェームズ・ウェッブ宇宙望遠鏡の打ち上げの遅れにより当初の予定よりも遅延したが、7月中旬に最初の科学観測データを取得することができた。今年度は主に撮像観測データを用い、4つの近傍宇宙にある赤外線銀河のターゲットのうち、2つの銀河を中心にデータ補正および解析を行った。予備研究での経験を活かし、データ補正をスムーズに進めることができ、データ解析を効率よく進展させることができた。 まず、1つの目の銀河では、ジェームズ・ウェッブ宇宙望遠鏡の高空間分解能を活かし、赤外線銀河のエネルギー源の位置を特定することができた。この銀河は銀河中心部から外れた場所にエネルギー源が存在することが先行研究で示唆されていたが、その位置を精度良く決定づけることはできなかった。今回の研究では、このエネルギー源の位置を初めて決定づけることができ、可視光線では全く放射しておらず、近赤外線でも比較的暗い天体であることを発見した。つまり、塵に隠された現象は可視光線ではもちろん、例え近赤外線であっても特定できないことがあることを意味し、赤外線探査の重要性を示した重要な発見となった。 また、もう一方の銀河では、中心部にブラックホールが存在するため、そこからの強力な放射を減算する必要があったが、予備研究でこの手法を確立していたおかげで大きな困難なく実行することができた。これにより、ブラックホール周辺にある星形成領域の抽出を効率よく行うことができた。このプロジェクトでも望遠鏡がもつ世界最高の空間分解能と感度により、60もの星形成領域の抽出に成功した。これにより、ハッブル宇宙望遠鏡を用いた先行研究で発見された領域数を倍増させたことができた。これらの新たに発見された領域は塵に隠された非常に若い星形成領域であることを突き止め、ブラックホール周りの星形成を理解を深める新たな知見を得ることができた。

ジェームズ・ウェッブ宇宙望遠鏡の打ち上げに遅れがあったが、7月から科学運用が無事に始まったことにより研究を進めることができた。特に、前年度および本年度の7月以前に行った予備研究が活かされ、データ入手直後からスムーズに取り組めたことにより、短時間で査読付き論文を海外論文誌にて出版することもできた。また、新型コロナウイルス感染症拡大防止のための水際対策により昨年度は実現できなった、海外共同研究者を直接訪問し現地打ち合わせを、今年度は実現させることができたことも順調な研究進展に貢献した。

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
本年度は主に撮像観測データを用いた研究を中心に行ったが、来年度は分光観測データにも取り組み、全ての観測データの解析を完了させる。計画通りに、ダスト減光量の測定や星形成やブラックホールの規模を算定する。また、面分光観測という特徴を活かし、星形成やブラックホールの周辺環境も調査する。得られた成果をもとに国際会議で研究発表も行い、さらなる研究の進展に活かす心づもりである。
