Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In June 2022, the PI hosted a large international in-person conference at Waseda University (along with a number of co-hosting institutions) on the impact of AI with different areas of Japanese and German law. The conference was the first in-person international conference hosted by Waseda University's School of Law after the pandemic, and was well attended, both in person and through online dissemination. A conference report was published in the Journal for Japanese Law. Further, the PI co-authored and published an article in an international journal (GRUR Int.) that touched upon big data protection as one legal area regulating the digital economy.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
The PI was planning to host another preparatory workshop with participations from China. However, given the travel restrictions still in place during AY 2022, the workshop had to be moved to AY 2023.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
For AY 2023, the PI plans to present initial findings at an international conference, publish a book chapter on Japan's big data protection system, and plans to host the mentioned work shop focusing on copyright law in the digital economy.
