Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
During the first half of the year, quantitative data was collected from 750 students across four university sites in Japan. Prior to the data collection period, ethical permission was applied for and granted within each of the institutions. The multifaceted survey instrument was inclusive of measures pertaining to developmental characteristics (personality traits), in-group affinity attachments (national identity) and various SARS-CoV-2 attitudes and behaviours (e.g., vaccine hesitancy, conspiracy theories, lockdown support). During the second half of the year, the data was processed and analyzed in relation to the previously hypothesized theories. Several predictor models have been identified and the research team are in the process of drafting a research article for publication.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The project is progressing as expected and all primary aims outlined within the application have been satisfy on schedule. There was a slight logistical delay in obtaining ethical permission due to variability within the precise criteria requested from each university. Nonetheless, the desired data was collected without incident and the data processing and analysis has been successful. Similarly, minor communication issues were encountered surrounding the execution of assigned funds within the universities of the co-investigators. Steps have since been taken to avoid such issues within the upcoming year. Expectations and responsibilities have been restated and agreed upon by the principal investigator and other project members.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
The data collected from the previous year will first be shared for publication. Then the project will focus on the communication of public health discourse surrounding the prevention of SARS-CoV-2. Local and national messages and slogans will be analyzed from a multimodal perspective to compliment the quantitative data previously collected. In the second half of the year, quantitative data will again be collected from the four university sites with a revised survey measure in order to test a more development theoretical model relating to how personality and national identity inform SARS-CoV-2 attitudes among Japanese young people.
