Outline of Annual Research Achievements
The goal of this project was twofold: To trial a new data collection technique and to understand comprehension difficulties that studnets encountered in English Medium Instruction lectures. We have manufactured the equipment necessary to make the project work and have five working models. These have been distributed to Hong Kong, Swede, and Tokyo. They have been used to collect data and also have led to further development of independent projects using the methods and equipment we have made. From now we look to scale up the data collection equipment to larger numbers.

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
1 paper published in peer reviewed journal. This paper describes the innovative methodology and works as a proof of concept. It is published in the journal of english as a medium of instruction, and has been one of their top five most read papers since it was published. 2 papers under review in high level peer reviewed journals. 1 book chapter under review. Presentations: 7 at international conferences in Japan and the UK. 2 Patent applications: 1 is completed and the patent is pending. 1 is in the process of being completed. The project has had many knock on effects. In Sweden a project using the innovation and approach has received a large grant (Swedish Research Council (VR), Project Number 2023-03853). In Hong Kong, I have partnered with another university to apply for funding as well.

Strategy for Future Research Activity
Complete three more papers this year, and attend two more conferences. We are applying for funding in Hong Kong to use the technique we developed in a strategies research project. We have enough data to write many more papers. Far more than we expected. We have also received a lot of interest in people wishing to use the technique. I will deliver a mechanism to a researcher in Spain this summer so they can use the method. I will take one to a researcher in London, UK. This summer for their project.
