Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Under my general guidance, the Fellow conducted research for her project entitled “Topological nanophotonic metamaterials for robust integrated devices.” I supported the Fellow's leadership in the machine-learning subproject and her collaboration with RIKEN-based Senior Scientist Dr. Konstantin Bliokh, with whom the Fellow co-authored papers in 2015 and 2018. Training-through-research was facilitated through the rapid integration of the Fellow into the supportive environment of the group. The Fellow had the opportunity to communicate extensively with members of my laboratory and visitors in the regular seminar series. She also had access to all the necessary numerical facilities, including software packages and RIKEN supercomputer, which were particularly useful for running machine-learning applications. During the visit, she presented a seminar “Dirac-like physics emulated in photonic platforms” at the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and participated in the international workshop LPHYS'23 online. Overall, the visit was productive and mutually beneficial, enriching our photonics research agenda. The Fellowship played an essential role in refreshing and renewing a long-term collaboration with a twist to cutting-edge topics of topological materials and machine learning.
