Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In the past few months, the study 1 has been in progress. The study tested the signal transfer from the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex to the primary motor cortex by using dual-site paired-pulse transcranial magnetic stimulation in a cognitive decision-making task. By evaluating the neuroplasticity (i.e, interhemispheric inhibition (IHI) and motor evoked potentials (MEP)), how the neuroplasticity mechanisms change under impulsive decision-making can be answered. Its preliminary results have been submitted to the international conference “The Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS) 2024”. The project may have implications for the treatment of specific disorders like at-risk adolescents or substance addiction.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
In the original schedule, the experimental plan consisted of three studies. The first study which evaluate neuroplasticity (i.e., IHI and MEP) under different motor conditions should be completed in months 1-8. This JSPS postdoc program started from the end of October 2023. Till March 2024, 5 months passed, and the experiments are still in progress. It’s behind the schedule which the whole experiments should be done and the manuscript writing should be started. The reason may be the revision of the proposal. The object of the study frame has been changed from the different motor conditions to a cognitive motor-psychological task. Therefore, it needs more time to revise the experimental plan and do the literature reading and leads to the delay.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In this year (month 6 - 17), firstly the study 1 should be fully completed (month 6- 10). The manuscript of the study 1 should be submitted to the international journal. The second study, which evaluate effects of new noninvasive brain stimulation-induced neuroplasticity in healthy participants, should be completed as well. Since the proposal of study 1 has been modified, the study 2 will be modified accordingly as well. The study 2 will be focused on the specific participants who has substance addiction. The objective of this study is to compare the changes of neuroplasticity mechanisms under the substance addiction on the specific cognitive task. The study 2 will be completed within 8 months.

Causes of Carryover |
The original proposal was changed, which is the reason why the usage plan was changed. The object of the study frame has been changed from the different motor conditions to a cognitive motor-psychological task.
