星間物質の精査によるガンマ線超新星残骸の探求

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

当該年度は，主にガンマ線超新星残骸 (SNR) に付随する星間分子 (CO) および水素原子 (HI) の観測および定量を中心として研究を推進した．星間分子については，前年度に引き続きCO J=2-1輝線 (Jは回転量子数) の観測を遂行した．一方，星間原子については星間ダストの光学的厚さを用いる新定量手法を開拓した．以下に具体的な研究実績を示す．
(1) NANTEN2電波望遠鏡と大阪府立大学の1.85m鏡を用い，新たにガンマ線SNR4天体 (10平方度) の観測，および感度向上のため2天体（3平方度）の追観測を行った．これにより，当該年度末の時点で，リストしたガンマ線SNRの８割以上のCO J=2-1輝線観測が終了した．
(2) Planck衛星によって得られた星間ダストの光学的厚さを用いることで，低温・高密度のHIを，従来よりも１桁以上精確に定量することに成功した（福井ほか2014, 2015）．この手法をVela Jr. に代表されるHIが支配的なガンマ線SNRに適用することで，星間陽子とガンマ線分布の一致度が改善された．
(3) RX J1713.7-3946においてX線スペクトル解析を行い，高密度分子雲方向でスペクトルがハードになっていることを突き止めた (佐野ほか2015)．これは，効率よく宇宙線電子が加速されていることを意味し，従来の理論モデルの枠組みでは説明が困難であることを示した．
(4) 新たにマゼラン雲のSNRに注目し，Mopra 22m鏡を用いたCO J=1-0輝線のサーベイ観測を開始した．既に２７天体の観測が完了しており，８割を超えるSNRから付随候補のCOを検出した（東京大学/国立天文台との共同研究）．

Current Status of Research Progress

Reason

本研究の目標は，代表的な24個の銀河系内SNRに付随する星間ガスの系統的な同定と，星間ガスとガンマ線との比較にある．これによって，陽子起源ガンマ線を特定し，宇宙線陽子の起源がSNRにあることを立証する．星間ガスの精査は順調に進んでおり，星間分子については7割の観測が完了，星間水素については公開データと追観測によって概ねカバーできた．若いSNRと中程度の年齢のSNR 7個については，ガンマ線との比較を含む主要な解析を完了しており，うち6天体 (RX J1713.7-3946, Vela Jr., HESS J1731-347, W44, W28, IC443) において宇宙線陽子起源ガンマ線を特定した．
さらに，水素原子の精密定量法を確立できたことは，当該ガンマ線SNRの研究のみならず，星間物理学の基本の改訂を迫るインパクトがある．
また，非熱的・熱的X線と星間ガスの密接な関係を示したことは，陽子起源ガンマ線の裏付けや，効率の良い宇宙線加速メカニズム，さらには衝撃波相互作用について新たな知見をもたらしている．新たにマゼラン雲のSNRについても研究対象を拡張することで，サンプルが２倍以上に増え，より統計的な議論が可能になると見込まれる．
以上を総合して，当初の計画以上に研究が進展していると判断した．

Strategy for Future Research Activity

今後の2年間で，残る10個余のSNRについてもすでに取得した観測結果をもとに順次解析を進めて完了を目指す．同時に，NANTEN2電波望遠鏡による残り3天体のCO J=2-1輝線観測を終了させる． 年齢数100年のごく若いSNR 4個についてNRO 45m鏡などの大型望遠鏡による高分解能観測を行なっているが，今後の解析によって角度分解能が足りない可能性がある．その場合には，電波干渉計を用いた高分解能観測が必要であり，タイムリーに対処する予定である．また，水素原子の精密定量法をさらに洗練し，広く星間物質の質量決定を行なって，ガンマ線―星間陽子相関関係における，より高い信頼度を達成したい．加えて，RX J1713.7-3946について行なったX 線の詳細解析を，HESS J1731-347他の天体に逐次適用する計画である．
もう一つの課題として、古典的な荷電粒子加速理論 (DSA) による解釈の精密化がある．我々のX線解析結果 (佐野ほか2015) の注目すべき成果のひとつは，RX J1713.7-3946においてX線強度が高密度分子雲の方向で増加し，X線スペクトルのハード化が見られる点である．低密度領域では衝撃波が減速せず，X 線がハードであることは自然だが，高密度ガス近傍でのハード化は，DSAのみによる従来の描像をこえる可能性があり，今後詳細な検討が必要である．東京大学の星野真弘氏らによる乱流状態での磁気再結合にともなう粒子加速の可能性などが重要と見られる (e.g., 松本ほか2015)．今後，磁気流体力学理論 (井上剛志氏) との共同研究によって，現実的な星間物質分布における粒子加速の数値計算が重要であり，向こう2年のうちに成果を出して本研究の総括に活かしたい．
