Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We argue that there is a South Asian path of development and democratization. Four perspectives are suggested in order to understand contemporary India. It is not a normative evaluation but an attempt to understand present India from within regional history and in globally comparative terms. 1) Livability approach: Beyond productivity approach and capability approach. 2) South Asian path of development: Diverse livability through ‘segmentary participation’. 3) ‘Developmental democracy’: Economic liberalization, decentralization & participatory measures. 4) ‘Reassembling diversities’: Beyond postcolonial dichotomies
