| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
During this last year of the grant I focused on presenting the work related to the project in conferences and seminars, both in Japan and overseas. The feedback that we have obtained has allowed us to finish the open papers and to get them ready to send them for publication. In this respect we have completed the 2 remaining papers and they will shortly be sent for publication. One of these papers is joint work with Xiangcai Meng and Ryuichi Tanaka entitled “Government Expenditure Increase and Labor Market Dynamics in Japan’s Lost Decade” in which we explicitly explore the role of certain policies of the Japanese government in the increase of unemployment over the 1990s, and the other is an extended version of a previous empirical paper of the project, which is currently co-authored with Xiangcai Meng and Ryuichi Tanaka and is entitled “Changes of Japan’s Labor Market during the Lost Decade and the Role of Demographics.”
I have also worked on revising an unpublished paper, which was submitted for publication and now needs to be revised and adjusted before being sent out again. This paper is joint work with Sagiri Kitao and is entitled “Labor Market Policies in a Dual Economy.”
A paper related to this project got published in April 2015 at the European Economic Review. The paper is entitled “The Labor Market Effects of Introducing Unemployment Benefits in an Economy with High Informality”, and is joint with Mariano Bosch.
