Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究費では、太陽の彩層～遷移層が放つライマンα輝線の直線偏光を世界で初めて観測し、ハンレ効果によりその磁場情報を得ることを目的とした観測ロケット実験CLASP(Chromospheric Lyman-Alpha Spectro-Polarimeter)を進めた。昨年度は、これまで日本が中心となって開発したCLASP観測装置をNASA観測ロケットに搭載して、平成２７年９月３日に観測を成功理に実施し、取得したライマンα線の偏光スペクトルを、実施直後の国際会議"9th Hinode Science Meeting"等で速報した。観測の成功と、予想を超えた振舞いも示すライマンα線の偏光は、国際的にも注目されている。
本年度は、引続きCLASPの偏光解析装置で得た偏光データの解析を継続し、太陽面上の多くの個所でライマンα線の輝度と偏光度に反相関関係があることを明らかにした。これは、各場所の大気構造(温度や密度)が局所的に異なることを示し、モデルを介して大気の詳細構造を知る手掛かりとなる。また、本来撮像のみが目的だったCLASPの2次元モニター光学系のデータから偏光情報を得る独自の手法を考案し、上記と同様な反相関関係が太陽に普遍的にあることも示した。
これらCLASP偏光解析装置で得た散乱偏光の振舞いを、昨年度同様、平成２８年５月の米国天文学会・太陽物理分科会年会や平成２８年９月の研究会"Solar Polarization Workshop 9"など複数の国際会議で報告しつつ、並行して査読論文としてまとめ、年度末までにThe Astrophysical Journal Lettersでの出版の承諾を得た。
