| Research Abstract |
本研究は、申請者らが独自に開発したビタミンC（VC）を体内で合成できないSMP30/GNL遺伝子欠損マウスを用いて、妊娠期間中、母胎のVC不足が胎児の発生や新生児、小児の成長に及ぼす影響、並びに慢性的なVC不足が慢性閉塞性肺疾患（COPD）、骨粗鬆症、アルツハイマー病など、加齢に伴い増加する疾患の発症や老化そのものに及ぼす影響を包括的に探る。本研究により、VCの不足が発生、成長、老化など一生涯に渡り、生体にどのような影響を及ぼすか明らかにできる。
平成25年度、ビタミンC摂取と寿命との関係を明らかにするため、ビタミンCを合成できないSMP30/GNL遺伝子欠損マウスを用いて、若齢（200日齢）以降におけるビタミンCの不足や十分な摂取、及び過剰な摂取が寿命に及ぼす影響を検討した。その結果、ビタミンCを十分に摂取した群に比べて、不足した群では、平均寿命が2%、最長寿命は10%、短縮した。一方、過剰に摂取した群では、平均寿命が12%、最長寿命は5%、延長した。ビタミンCの寿命に及ぼす影響は、生体内レドックスバランスの変動によるかは、現在検討中である。
