| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The Aim of this study is to clarify the materials and techniques of Kizil mural paintings using high definition digital images and non-destructive measurement method in principle. This research study was executed in collaboration based on the agreement with Qiuci Institute ( representative: Zhao Li) and Tokyo University of Arts ( representative: Ichiro Sato). Investigated caves were #69, 167 and 224 caves. By means of of high definition digital images and X-ray fluorescence spectrometers, we could figure out the regularity of architectural program of caves, multilayer structure system composed of support, ground,underpainting, underpainting, overpainting, the mural painting process including incisione i.e. color scheme etc. We confirmed several metallic foils and arsenic pigment, indigo and lac resin. Some pigments were suggested the possibility of converted artficial pigments. The removed fragments from cave 224 were identified the original place of 13 pieces.
