Outline of Annual Research Achievements

■野生動物や産業動物はヒトと同じく多くの環境化学物質に曝露されており、環境化学物質による集団死は野生動物では世界的にも恒常的に起こっている。また、日常的な化学物質曝露はその地域に棲息する（飼育される）動物に病態を引き起こしていることがこれまでの研究により明らかになりつつある。アフリカの一部の国では、はすでに、急激な開発による「副作用」を受け、化学物質の汚染は生態系の浄化作用では対応できないところまで進んでいる。
■現在、フィールド・トキシコロジーの観点に基づいた生態系の化学物質汚染の疫学的研究はほとんどされていないが、特にアフリカにおける汚染の状況はブラックボックスとなっている。本研究によるアンブレラ種や歩哨動物としての野生動物、semi-wildの家畜における化学物質汚染サーベイランスと分子疫学的な調査は、生態系の保全だけではなく、さらに食物連鎖上その上位に立つヒトのリスクの予測にもつながることが期待される。
■アフリカではザンビア共和国、ガーナ、エチオピア、ケニア、ナイジェリア、エジプト、南アフリカなどにおいて、共同サーベイランスを展開し、重金属、有機ハロゲン化合物、多環芳香族を中止院に、環境化学物質の生態系や家畜における動態を明らかにした。また、一部汚染が重度に亢進している地域においては、ヒトへの影響についても明らかにした。
