Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Entamoeba nuttalli, a new pathogenic species, was detected in fecal samples from rhesus macaques in Nepal and Myanmar, long-tailed macaques in Thailand, toque macaques in Sri Lanka, and Tibetan macaques in China. On the other hand, E. histolytica was not found in these samples. More than 80 strains of E. nuttalli were cultured successfully. Diversity of serine-rich protein genes and tRNA-linked short tandem repeat sequences was correlated with geographical distribution of host macaques. Draft genome sequence of E. nuttalli P19-061405 strain was determined.
