Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study analysed the significance of sports in post war Okinawa such as high school baseball, 1964 Tokyo Olympics, National Athletic Meets (1973 and 1987), world championships of professional boxing and professional golf tournaments. In spite of being very skilled in high school baseball tournament, Okinawa's participation seemed to represent the 'sympathy' of the sad experiences and a mental weakness whereby there was a lack of tenacity for the purpose of victory. This situation seems to be sharp contrast of developmentalism and centralisation of Tokyo where symbolised 'metlopolis Tokyo'and 'development of Japan' in 1964 and made progress of 'Waterfront development project' in the bidding process of 2016 and 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics. We can analise and discuss the strategy of Japanese post war nationalism through sport in Okinawa and Tokyo.
