Outline of Final Research Achievements

The non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a phenotype in the livers of the metabolic syndrome. The patients are often complicated with obesity and diabetes. It is known that progression of liver fibrosis deteriorates NAFLD to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH).
Present study found that supplementation of gelatin hydrolysate (GH) delayed hepatic fibrosis in rats with chronic liver disease. Furthermore, GH attenuated an increase in blood glucose level in rats with diabetes.
The GH may be effective as a functional ingredient controlling progression of metabolic syndrome and the fatty liver.
