Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Air pollution has large impacts on public health, in particular in Asian regions. We therefore conducted several studies in Japan as well as in other South-East Asian countries. As collaborative studies in Asian countries, we conducted health impact assessment due to air pollution exposure, evaluated effects of acute exposure to air pollution on mortality, and examined health effects of Asian dust. In Japan, we evaluated the effects of acute exposure to air pollution on incidences of stroke, respiratory disease, and cardiac arrest as well as the effects of chronic exposure to air pollution on mortality due to cardiovascular disease and lung cancer. We further conducted air pollution epidemiological studies on perinatal health and air pollution intervention.
