Outline of Final Research Achievements |
A new microscope unit having an immersion objective with high numerical aperture and a non-volatile ionic liquid as a refractive index matching medium was applied to various optical spectroscopic techniques in high vacuum. We performed orientation imaging of single molecules by defocusing under conventional wide-field illumination and successfully obtained orientation images related to transition dipoles of single molecules in high vacuum and pure nitrogen gas. We also fabricated surface plasmon and Raman measurement systems with the new microscope unit. Furthermore we performed terahertz spectroscopy for ionic liquids in understanding their unique nature.
