Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This research clarified that the gender performativity in the writing of Angela Carter was strongly affected by her two-year stay in Japan. The research was consisted of archival research, translation of a memoir, and comparative literary analyses. The influence of Japan and Japanese culture to her works had not been studied fully, so my research contributed to fill in the gap. The publication of the English translation of the memoir written by Sozo Araki, Carter's ex-boyfriend, attracted much scholarly and general interests even in the UK, and I was interviewed by BBC2. This publication, and other presentations and publication in English, contributed to enrich further the scope of international Carter scholarship.
