Outline of Final Research Achievements

We aimed to study about artistic activities in Belgium which is a multilingual and multicultural country, about their <multilayered nationalism> of state/regions/cities level or of trans-linguistic level (French, Dutch and German) and about the internationalism resulted from their peripheral and at the same time avant-garde position. We studied especially Belgian contemporary literature by analyzing some texts and comparing them with mythologies, legends and "national literature" of the 19th century. We also did the research about artistic activities of different Belgian cities, France and Quebec to compare the situations in francophone countries. With these studies, we tried to consider the identity of Belgian arts from the point of views of multicultural coexistence (including the artist's personal multicultural situation), of tradition/avant-garde and of the nationalism/internationalism. We organized the results into papers.
