Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study will quantitatively and qualitatively describe the multiple clause linkage structure in contemporary spoken and written Japanese, using two large-scale Japanese corpora, Corpus of Spontaneous Japanese (CSJ) and Balanced Corpus of Contemporary Written Japanese (BCCWJ).
The following two research questions are posed: 1. What types of clauses are connected in what order to form the multiple clause linkage structure? 2. What factors bear on the variable use of the multiple clause linkage structure?
