Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
This research was designed to investigate the ways in which music has been mobilized in local cultural and economic revitalization efforts in Okinawa City, Okinawa. The research focused on three key events and institutions: the annual Peaceful Love Rock Festival, the Koza Music Town facility, and the Live House Circuit organization of local live clubs. Additional research was also conducted to investigate related music-based events held in Okinawa City such as the Okinawa International Asia Music Festival and the Kanaderu Park events. Participant observation research was complemented with interviews conducted with local government representatives, event organizers, music business owners and participating musicians. In addition, archival research collecting related newspaper articles and other materials was conducted, primarily at the Okinawa Prefectural Library in Naha.
