In this research I considered two different bases for the computation of personal injury damages in Japanese automobile insurance(compulsory liability insurance, voluntary insurance, personal injury protection insurance), i.e., a basis which is adopted by courts in civil actions and a basis which is used by insurers in out-of-court settlement.
