Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The project shed light upon the relationship between Matsumoto Shigeharu, a former journalist who led Japan's postwar intellectual interchange at the International House of Japan, and the Rockefeller Foundation that supported his activities. The project revealed how Matsumoto's intellectual interchange programs unfolded in the 1950s and 1960s in strained relation to U.S. public diplomacy as the foundation built intimate relationship with the U.S. government in the Cold War.
