Outline of Final Research Achievements

The purpose of this research is to investigate whether the narratives of experienced persons and materials of oral history have been used as the effective resource and data for the description and inheritance of postwar Japanese history as well as understand the current situation of making use of these narratives and materials. Therefore, selecting several historical events among the postwar history, I have researched on the way of collecting, transcribing and archiving materials of oral history about each event. Each event is associated with industrial pollution, natural disaster or riots in postwar period. Research findings are that materials of oral history have been used for the resources of the town planning and lead to our current and future life and the way of life rather than the testimony of historical facts.
