Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Six experiments explored the effective replacement thoughts in reducing the paradoxical effects of stereotype suppression. Our findings were as follows: (a) Counter-stereotypes were ineffective in reducing the paradoxical effects; (b) subtypes (i.e., non-dominant stereotypes) were effective in reducing the paradoxical effects. (c) those who had complex cognitive structures in person perception were likely to use subtypes as replacement thoughts, and thus showed less paradoxical effects than those who had simple cognitive structures.
